IMPORTANCE:
Three members of the Boston Community had their lives lost in this tragedy, and many others were injured. There is a certain sense of fear now associated with the Boston Marathon, security will probably begin to increase, and the amount of runners may decrease (scared) or increase (support, running for those affected) in the coming marathon. But the world’s oldest annual marathon which is usually a joyous occasion now marks another event- the anniversary of those hurt by the bombings.

September - Syria's use of chemical weapons

Summary: Syria utilizes chemical weapons to kill more than 1400 people. Some of these people are children. The chemical weapons killed indiscriminately in a community, not distinguishing enemies from supporters.
Importance: Syria used chemical weapons to murder 1400 of it’s own citizens, this is bad because of what was used to kill them. The world probably wouldn’t have cared so much if Syria had just used conventional methods to murder 1400 citizens, but the western world cares about it now because chemical weapons were used. The western world, and most of the rest of the world has signed onto the Chemical Weapons Convention. The Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits any use or production of chemical weapons. The issue here is that Syria acceded to the treaty on the 14th September, 2013.

Pope Francis
Pope Francis has revolutionized the Catholic Church and beyond in the course of a few short months since he was elected pope in May. He was named Time  magazine’s person of the year for 2013, a very well deserved title for the first New World pope in the history of catholicism. Francis has done things his papal counterparts have never done such as reaching out to Muslims, being more supportive of gay people and encouraging the Church to allow more opportunities for women within its walls. In addition, he has set the bar high for the rest of religious leaders in the world by preaching love and tolerance above all things. Even though he is shepard to over 1 billion Catholics, with almost unchecked amounts of power, he still makes a note to volunteer and work with the needy and homeless.

Pope Francis
It’s the start of a new beginning, for Jorge Mario Bergoglio didn’t go with the norm. Jorge Mario Bergoglio started a new legacy of Pope Francis, he was Pope Francis the first. Francis being the 1st argentinian and New World pope, for now things will start to change; “loosening up” the Catholic Community and rules, as well as accepting gays, are some of his main goals.
